Volunteer Stories

Volunteers are vital to our Mission. We are blessed to have the skills and talents of individuals from all over the country. Meet a few of our valuable volunteers!

Lois

Lois, a long term volunteer from Santa Clarita, CA, began her three year commitment in March of 2005. An interior designer by trade, Lois had no idea that her skills would be put to use at the Mission. But God seems to bring the right people to the Mission when they are needed. Lois used her skills to redesign the Craft Store to better display and market crafts for local residents. An accomplished photographer, Lois recently made the jump to a digital camera and has been taking pictures for use in Mission publications and capturing events with her creative eye. "Through my time here, I have learned that it is so important for people to that God uses the talents they naturally have for His work in missions," Lois comments about her experience.

Dr. Lucy

Dr. Lucy started volunteering a week a year to provide coverage for our regular physicians for vacation or training in 1985.  She has given a week or more of her life ever since, for a total of 21 years.Dr. Lucy was born in West Virginia, went to medical school in Ohio, is board certified in both family practice and insurance medicine, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.  Prior to her recent retirement, she was working at Ochsner Satellite Clinics in the greater New Orleans area in Louisiana. One of the joys she has about serving at Red Bird Clinic is working in the Christian atmosphere that allows her to pray daily with the staff and her patients as needed.  Over the course of her 21 years, she has developed relationships with many patients who consider her their doctor, even though they see other doctors the rest of the year.
