Volunteer Opportunities

Work camp team members that can't work with their groups (for health/physical reasons,etc) but would like to volunteer in another area of ministry must complete an application & background check form (download pdf here or word document here). For living quarters and meals, these individuals generally remain with their respective work camp group.

Volunteers are an important part of the ministry of Red Bird Mission. They render services and fill job positions that otherwise would not be filled. Some of the areas in which volunteers give their talents are listed below. Positions are filled based on the skills and interests of the applicants, and the current needs of the Mission.

Education

Tutors, School Nurse, Secretarial Aid, Classroom & Library Aides

Community Outreach

Transportation Drivers, Senior Center activities, Meals on Wheels, Family Ministries, Christmas Room, Respite Care

Health & Wellness

Doctors, nurses, dental hygenists, and other medical professionals. Must obtain KY licensing.

Economic Opportunity

Cashier, warehouse worker, craft marketing

Community Housing Improvement

Crew leaders, cooks, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, auto mechanics, facility caretakers

Office

Data entry, web development, marketing, secretarial duties, computer hardware/software

Length of Service

Volunteers come to serve for varying lengths of time. The minimum length of service is generally one week. Some volunteers have served at Red Bird Mission for several years. The length of service and abilities of the volunteer will determine the responsibility given for programs and tasks. Persons invited for periods of six months or longer are considered long term volunteers.

Housing

Housing accommodations are provided based on family size, length of stay and housing availability. Basic furnishings include furniture and bed linens. When a kitchen is provided, utensils, pots, pans and dishes will be provided also. The various types of our volunteer housing are:

Lehman Lodge & Volunteers' Quarters: Private bedroom, basic furnishings, shared kitchen & bath
Camp Ground - Motor home/Trailer pads (most with full hook-ups)

Meals

Short term volunteers are asked to pay for their own meals. Long term volunteers are provided meals in our facilities when available. Availability of meals is listed below. All prices are subject to change.
School: Lunch on school days - $3.00 per person
Work Camp: Dining Hall - Only when work groups are here during Spring, Summer and early Fall; Sunday dinner through Saturday breakfast, no Wednesday supper, $38.00 per person per week. Meals may be purchased individually at a slightly higher cost.
