Phyllis Crouse

Phyllis Crouse is a General Board of Global Ministries missionary serving in the Red Bird Missionary Conference. She is the librarian at Red Bird Mission School in Beverly, Kentucky.Working with children, Ms. Crouse says, "I try to teach them library skills and the joy of books and reading. I read stories to the children I work with and encourage them to read and learn more about themselves and the world around them. I hope to help prepare them for a life of much learning. It is thrilling to see the excitement in children as they discover a new book, by a favorite author or find success in finding a book they can read and enjoy. The funding and support from people throughout the United Methodist Church provides books and audio equipment for our library."   After coming to Red Bird Mission in 1979, she taught first, thir, fourth and fifth grades.   A native of Smith Center, Kansas, Ms. Crouse holds a BA degree in elementary education from Sterling College, Sterling, Kansas. She did further study in elementary education at Fort Hays University, Hays, Kansas and Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, Kentucky. She holds a library certificate from the University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky. When Ms. Crouse came to Red Bird Mission, she joined her sister, Shirley, who came in 1961. She has continued a tradition of service to the Lord at Red Bird Mission begun by her brother, Randall, who served from 1960 to 1971. She taught the first and second grade Sunday School class for many years at the Beverly United Methodist Church. She co-directs a nid-week Bible fellowship for elementary children. "Singing in the choir, playing the piano for church, and holding various offices in the church as well as the United Methodist Women have contributed to my witness for the Lord in this area," she says.
