01/26/2007-- The National News tells us that Kentucky is one of four states in the country with an outbreak of Influenza already this season. We are beginning to see signs that this may be a difficult “flu season!” Many county schools in the aread have closed “due to illness.”
Our nursing staff at Red Bird Clinic gave a record 400+ Influenza vaccines this past fall, yet we are beginning to document Influenza cases in children and adults. So far the cases have been mild, but we anticipate busy office days in the weeks ahead. Thankfully there are anti-viral medications that shorten the course of Influenza if started within 72 hours of the onset of symptoms.
We are encouraging our patients to come early for a nasal swab test if experiencing a bad headache, cough, congestion, and muscle aches. Here’s to your health!
